How Do You Choose Your Target Audience in Marketing via Social Networking?
There are four different classes of Social Networks
1. Marketing to Community Based Social Networks:
I.E. Facebook, Myspace, Twitter
For many individuals Facebook, MySpace and Twitter, are made up of associates, friends and family.
These Social Networks are great for mass advertising to individuals you know such as tweets on Twitter or writing on your Wall on Facebook. These social networks allow you to target an audience that would suit your business or product.
However, you can do mass marketing to those you do not know as well on Facebook. For example, one way to do this is joining a group that is similar to what you are going to market and advertise your referral link there.
For example, if I were to advertise PeopleString, I would join a group such as free ways to earn money online, and in my case post my domain name
2. Marketing to Video Based Community Social Networks:
I.E. YouTube, DailyMotion,
Most definitely, this type of marketing suits the formal social marketing. These sites are good in my opinion if you have a solid fan base with in a video based community site.
Unfortunately, with this type of Social Networking it is very hard to target an audience perfectly. However, if you do have a specific base that would suit your business, what you are advertising will immediately take off. This type of Social Marketing is not for everyone; however for the one's it is for it many times means substantial growth

3. Marketing to Information Based Social Networks: Forums
Forums are great if you know how to use them effectively. What many individuals do wrong is that they post their link without any relevant info,
This is a mistake, forums are used as information based site. It is a community of information seekers, so one must treat it that way by providing valid info.
Advertising a social site on a blog about using social media tools is a smart way to utilize social media tools to market your business. Not only that, but picking a particular forum allows you to really to target your audience effectively
4. Marketing to Community and Interest based Networks: PeopleString
There are some sites that are unique and I put this in a separate category.
One example of this is PeopleString: It is one of those sites that serve as jack of all trades
First off PeopleString satisfies two aspects for Social Marketing
1. It serves the interests of many individuals, from those who want to earn an extra $100.00's a month to one's who want to earn an extra few thousand a year.
2. It serves as a hybrid, of a work at home job and a social networking site. Basically take Facebook and put the home business aspect into it and you have PeopleString
Basically while PeopleString serves the interest to those who want to make an extra $100.00's a month it also serves the interests of marketers, who are targeting these individuals because
1. They want extra money
2. Their interests are much more defined in a social marketing setting
How do you use Social Marketing as a tool?
Well you have to consider a few aspects
1. Do not use Social Marketing as a Sword, but as a calm pointer to guide you and your prospect down the road to success
2. Beware of words: words have a lot of meaning and can be powerful for you or against you. Choosing your words wisely is very important
3. Take a correct approach, when marketing your business. This really applies to any type of marketing, however for Social Marketing this aspect is of utmost importance.
1. Spam
2. Unwanted advertising
3. Harassing your prospect to join
4. Being Aggressive to the point of ill feelings
5. anything type of marketing technique you would not appreciate if you were in your prospects place.
In short, evaluate the type of Social Sites you want to market your business on and the correct approach to market it with
Personally, I use PeopleString to market many of my other businesses, Not only that, but I earn an extra $50.00's a month doing it.
The thing I love about PeopleString, is that it pays back their Ad-Revenue back to their users, and you can go through PeopleString and get paid to go to the sites above such as Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, and YouTube
